Privacy policy
DriftR is built by one person who floats and fishes the Bitterroot. It has no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and your data is never sold. Most of what you do in DriftR never leaves your phone.
What stays on your device
Your trips, plans, tracks, catches, photos, hazards, river notes and settings are stored on your device. If you delete the app, or use Settings › Your data › Erase all my data, they are gone from that device.
Your location
DriftR uses your location to show where you are on the river, work out your miles and pickup time, warn you about hazards ahead, and record your track while a float or track is recording. When you choose to record, DriftR can keep recording in the background. Your location is not sent to us. It only leaves your device if you turn on sync (below) or share it yourself, for example with Text my location.
Optional sync account
If you turn on Sync across devices, you create an account with an email address and password. Your DriftR data (trips, tracks, catches, photos, hazards, notes and some settings) is then copied to a private database hosted by Supabase so your phone and computer stay in step. Each account can only read its own data. You can stop syncing at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and its data (see Contact).
Services DriftR talks to
To show current conditions and maps, DriftR requests public information from these services. These requests can include the map area you are viewing or the river location being looked up, plus your device's IP address, as with any web request. They do not include your name, account or trip history.
- U.S. Geological Survey: river flows, water temperature and topographic maps
- Open-Meteo: weather forecasts
- OpenStreetMap (Overpass): the river line on the map
- Supabase: only if you turn on sync
Riffle, the AI fishing guide (optional)
Riffle only works if you add your own Anthropic API key in Settings. When you ask Riffle a question or send it a photo (for example, to identify a bug or fly), that question, the photo and helpful context such as your river stretch, today's flows and your logged fishing are sent directly from your device to Anthropic to get an answer. Your use is covered by your own agreement with Anthropic. If you never set up Riffle, nothing is sent.
What we don't do
- No advertising, ad tracking or selling of data
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No sharing with third parties, except the services listed above to make the features work
Children
DriftR is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
